Meet the Team - Iyad Kallas_SINGA Bordeaux

What is the name of your organisation and what do you do?

SINGA Bordeaux is a non-profit organisation founded in February 2022 and is part of the global SINGA network. The organisation focuses on fostering social innovation and inclusion for newcomers and locals. It supports entrepreneurs through incubation programs that rely on community building, partnerships, and innovative technologies.

SINGA Bordeaux emphasizes inclusive design, entrepreneurial resilience, and technology for good. It contributes to the socioeconomic integration of marginalized groups within multicultural environments, with a particular focus on women and youth. Since its inception, it has supported tens of entrepreneurs and engaged a community of over 300 potential project owners.

SINGA collaborates with European partners to provide comprehensive support to migration-led entrepreneurs through a network of incubators. It is involved with the Refugee Entrepreneurship Network, contributing to monitoring and evaluation efforts to establish common metrics. SINGA also participated in the Hello Europe Ecosystem Accelerator to address challenges in the migrant workforce and entrepreneurial ecosystem, resulting in a collaborative report. Additionally, SINGA works with The Human Safety Net, corporate foundations, and local organizations to fund and support newcomer entrepreneurs, fostering integration and economic opportunities across Europe.

Can you present yourself and tell us more about what you do

I am Iyad Kallas, the Co-founder, Technology and Innovation Director, and President. Together with the team, particularly Ksenia Skorik, SINGA Bordeaux's Co-founder and Director, we manage various projects that support the socioeconomic and sociocultural inclusion of individuals and stakeholders involved in the intercultural entrepreneurship ecosystem.

What is your role and your responsibilities in this project?

We are contributing our expertise to developing the project across all phases and work packages for the MOSAIC inclusive funding project. In addition to contributing to the Networking Hub and the Inclusivity Strategy, we facilitate meetings that bring together intercultural, underrepresented entrepreneurs with other stakeholders locally and from Europe.

Tell us, what is the purpose of the Mosaic Project? What made you want to join this project?

We joined the project consortium after receiving an invitation from our local partner, le LABA, which supports the operations and growth of SINGA Bordeaux. We decided to join to learn from working with European partners and to contribute our expertise in empowering intercultural and inclusive entrepreneurship.

What strategies have been put into place to ensure the success of this project? What do you think Mosaic needs to draw attention to that previous projects with a similar aim have not yet achieved?

The Mosaic project ensures success through collaborative networks, strong local and national partnerships, a comprehensive incubation program, and technology and e-learning. We address challenges in underrepresented communities, especially migrant-led entrepreneurship projects to empower the ecosystem. We aim to enhance real-time monitoring and evaluation, create sustainable and scalable models, integrate advanced digital tools, and develop targeted initiatives for women and youth. These enhancements will build on the project's strengths and ensure a more comprehensive support system for migration-led innovation and entrepreneurship.

What do you hope to achieve through this project?

Through the Mosaic project, we aim to improve entrepreneurship opportunities for migrants, develop self-employability, and facilitate social and occupational integration with a high success rate for participants. We plan to collaborate with our partners to create inclusive and resilient entrepreneurial ecosystems, utilize technology for better support and monitoring, and establish sustainable models. Additionally, we aim to introduce focused initiatives to cultivate a more inclusive and dynamic entrepreneurial environment that fosters economic growth and social equity.
