Meet the Team - Marian Spier_FEM-START

What is the name of your organisation, and what do you do?

The organisation is called FEM-START. FEM-START is committed to reducing the funding gap for female entrepreneurs. Our online learning platform provides courses on funding and entrepreneurship, enabling women to transform their aspirations into tangible achievements. To finance 100,000 women by 2030, FEM-START offers a thriving community where women can receive education, mentorship, and assistance.

Can you present yourself and tell us more about what you do?

I am a serial entrepreneur dedicated to empowering women-led startups worldwide and advising organisations on their journey toward digital and cultural transformation.

Since 2012, I have been consulting clients across 15+ countries, across multiple industries and sectors. My portfolio includes renowned names such as MediaMonks, Banijay, Endemolshine, NDT, BNN VARA, Google, Ace & Tate, Prorail, Rabobank, ABN AMRO, Menzis, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Economics, the City of Amsterdam, United Nations, World Humanitarian Summit, UNESCO, TEDx in Europe and the Caribbean, and TED.com.

In addition to my consulting work, I founded FEM-START, a platform designed to close the funding gap for female entrepreneurs worldwide. I also contribute my expertise as an advisor and board member to various organisations.

What is your role and your responsibilities in this project?

I am responsible for developing strategies to effectively share the project's results and ensure long-term impact. This includes overseeing engaging content creation, fostering stakeholder relationships, and managing social media communications. Additionally, my role involves creating sustainability plans, securing ongoing support, and analysing performance to enhance engagement and maintain project benefits beyond its initial phase.

Tell us, what is the purpose of the Mosaic Project? What made you want to join this project?

The MOSAIC Project empowers underrepresented founders in Europe by bridging gaps in entrepreneurship education. It provides educators with essential resources and adapts the entrepreneurial ecosystem to meet current challenges better. I joined because its mission aligns with my passion for inclusive entrepreneurship, impactful education, and systemic change, making it a valuable initiative for driving equitable growth and innovation.

What strategies have been put into place to ensure the success of this project? What do you think Mosaic needs to draw attention to that previous projects with a similar aim have not yet achieved?

To guarantee MOSAIC's success, we have conducted localized needs assessments, developed customized curricula, trained educators, and established a collaborative ecosystem with partners. Unlike previous projects, MOSAIC prioritizes cross-cultural sensitivity, continuous post-education support, innovative funding models, data-driven personalized learning, and policy advocacy to promote comprehensive and sustainable impact.

What do you hope to achieve through this project?

Through MOSAIC, we will see concrete results such as higher startup success rates, measurable improvements in founder confidence and competence, and a greater acknowledgment of the value of diversity in entrepreneurship. I envision a flourishing community where underrepresented founders are included and celebrated for their innovative contributions to economic growth.
